The City's Virginia Canyon Mountain Park (VCMP) is open to the public for both walkers and mountain bikes. Pets are welcome on a leash. Please be respectful of neighborhood areas and local residents.
VCMP is a collaborative effort between the City, the Mighty Argo Cable Car team, the Colorado Mountain Bike Association (COMBA), and other sponsors, including Trek. The Trek Trails at VCMP include, as of today, approximately 15 miles of trails, including walking-only trails and downhill only mountain bike trails. For more information, please visit the COMBA website here.
VCMP Parking
If you are planning to visit VCMP with a car, please refer to the City's VCMP parking page here, as parking at the trailhead is extremely limited and fills early in the day. Consider parking elsewhere in town and following the Clear Creek Trail to the trailhead, which runs through the City and connects the historic downtown with the trailhead and the east end of town.
Park Rules
- Park Hours: 1 hour before sunrise to 1 hour after sunset.
- Dogs must remain on a leash at all times.
- Waste must be picked up and deposited into receptacles.
- Pack out what you pack in.
- Respect and keep distance from wildlife.
- No fires.
- No camping.
- No motorized vehicles (class 1 EMTB allowed).
Please remember to be a good ambassador for the mountain biking community while you’re in Idaho Springs. This is a small town, and your behavior will be noticed! The new trails and increased ridership will significantly impact local residents and businesses, and we want to ensure it’s a positive experience for everyone.
The VCMP master plan map is available here, showing the approved trails within the park at full build-out. Eventually, 28 miles of trails are expected in the park.
Thanks to the expertise of trail building crews of Flowride Concepts, McGill Trails, Colorowdies, and Renegade Trail Crew for their help in building the existing trails offered to-date.
