The City Clerks office is responsible for permitting. You can submit all completed permit applications to the clerk via email cityclerk [at] idahospringsco.com (here). Please click on title below for the rules and regulations on each type of permit:
Building Permit
It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to erect, construct, enlarge, alter or change the use of any building or other structure within the City without first obtaining all permits required by any of the primary or secondary codes as adopted hereby. No permit shall be issued unless the plans for the proposed erection, construction, reconstruction, alteration or use fully conform to all zoning ordinances and other applicable regulations of the City. A building permit application form can be found here. The City of Idaho Springs has currently adopted the 2018 IBC/IRC Building Codes and the 2023 NEC. All contractors who do work in Idaho Springs, must be licensed in Idaho Springs. The contractors license application can be found here.
Public Event Permit
A public event permit must be obtained from the City prior to a planned event involving the assembly of persons, to be conducted in whole or in part on any public street, sidewalk or other property owned or controlled by the City. An application for a public event permit must be filed with the City Clerk, on forms provided by the City Clerk, not less than sixty (60) days prior to the commencement of the proposed public event. A permit shall be required for each public event, regardless of whether the event is a regular, recurring event (such as an annual event); though a public event may last for more than one (1) calendar day. The Public Event Application can be found here.
Sign Permit
A sign shall not hereafter be erected, re-erected, constructed, altered, remodeled or changed (not including a change in copy), except as provided by this Chapter and after a permit for the same has been issued. A separate permit shall be required for a sign for each business entity, and a separate permit shall be required for each group of signs on a single supporting structure. In addition, electrical permits shall be obtained for illuminated signs. You can access the sign permit application here, and the temporary sign permit application here. If there is any electrical or structural components to the sign, you will also need a building permit application, which can be accessed here.

It is unlawful for any person, other than an employee of the City in the course of his or her employment, to construct, reconstruct, repair or alter any curb cut, excavation, driveway or other opening to or intersection with the surface of any street, alley, sidewalk, curb or other public place or to excavate or make any opening in or under the surface of such streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs or other public places without first obtaining a permit therefor.
