Municipal Court

The information on this site pertains only to the Municipal Court for the City of Idaho Springs. All court proceedings are governed by city ordinances, court rules and state statutes. Court employees are not allowed to give legal advice, but will be happy to answer any procedural questions.

About

The Idaho Springs Municipal Court has jurisdiction over violations of city ordinances. This court handles Traffic, Parking, Animal, No Proof of Insurance, and Misdemeanor criminal offenses that have occurred within the Idaho Springs city limits. This court does not handle DUI, serious theft or drug possession offenses.

Juveniles

A parent or legal guardian must appear with any person who was a juvenile at the time of the violation.

Court Hours and Location

Court is held at the Idaho Springs City Hall. Enter through the front door on Miner Street and the Clerks Window is to your left.

The Court room has a public zoom room that you may log into to watch.

If you need to appear virtually, you need to send an email  to the court clerk, no later than 24 hours before your scheduled court time, to request that and get a separate link. 

If you need to reschedule a court appearance you may request to do so, no later than Monday before your scheduled court date. Court staff can reset one month out from your original court date.

Court Schedule

Court is once a month, usually on the third Thursday. In person appearance begin at 9:30 a.m. If you are appearing virtually your login time is 12:30 p.m.

Pay Your Fine

If your citation has a fine amount listed, you may pay your citation without a court appearance. The payment must be Received 3 days prior to your scheduled court appearance. Court costs will be assessed on cases where a defendant appears in court and is convicted or accepts a settlement.

There is also a drop box in the front door for after hours payments.

By Phone/Online

With a credit or debit card. There will be a 3.5% transaction fee added to the total fine amount. 

With a checking account and routing number. There will be a $1.00 transaction fee added to the total fine amount.

You may call anytime Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m.to 6:00 p.m. Anyone can take your payment, if your ticket is in our system.

Court etiquette includes dressing appropriately for court. If you are wearing a hat, please remove it in the courtroom.

Do not eat or drink in the courtroom. 

Cellphones and electronics must be silenced while court is in session. 

There may be other cases called before your case, please patient and aware of the others waiting. 

The municipal court is a court of record so please be quiet and patient so that a good recording is made.  

When the judge calls your name, step up to the podium. If you do not understand, be sure to tell the judge that you do not understand.

There is a small delay for the tickets to be received to the Court. Please allow 10 to 15 business days for the court to receive your ticket.

More serious charges (such as DUI or possession) are written into Clear Creek County Courts. You may contact the Monday through Thursday (303) 569-0820
 

Fines and costs for tickets with a good driver option are due three days before your court date.

If you appear in court, the fine amount that is set by the Judge is due on the date that you either plead guilty or are found guilty after trial. 

In some cases the judge may grant a payment schedule, if the payment is not made by a the agreed upon date, a warrant for arrest may issue and/or the DMV will revoke your driving privilege.
