Idaho Springs, CO — The City of Idaho Springs, in partnership with COMBA, is pleased to announce the reopening timeline for Virginia Canyon Mountain Park, alongside key milestones for the Mighty ARGO Cable Car project.
Virginia Canyon Mountain Park is anticipated to reopen to trail users on April 25, 2026 restoring access to one of the region’s premier trail systems for hiking and biking. As final construction and safety measures are completed, intermittent trail closures may continue after April 25th for the coming weeks.
As part of this next phase, the Mighty ARGO Cable Car project will mark a major milestone. Ticket pricing and pass information will be released following the cabin unveiling event at Union Station on April 16, with a limited release of public tickets to follow as operations ramp up in phases. For the most up-to-date information, please sign up at www.mightyargo.com. Please note that bike access via the cable car may not be available immediately upon opening.
The Mighty ARGO will celebrate this progress with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on April 24, 2026. This invite-only event will recognize the collaborative efforts that have brought the project to this point and honor its significance for the Idaho Springs community. Following the ceremony, Idaho Springs residents are invited to participate in a special Locals Day beginning at 1:30 PM on April 24, offering the community an early opportunity to experience the ARGO project and celebrate this new chapter together.
Over the winter, Trek Trails at Virginia Canyon Mountain Park has been refreshed and is ready for reopening. New kiosk maps have been installed and the newly established Shimano Trail Born Hub now serves as the base for three trails: the existing Gauntlet Gold, along with the soon-to-open Panic Switch and Old School. Rosa Gulch has been extended to Santa Fe Mine Rd, and Drop Shaft & Eureka have been extended all the way to the top of the park at Miners Point, bringing the total trail mileage to over 16 miles.
